The Details...

This brooch features a bee created from carved horn, with beautiful tones of brown, gold and green. It is especially captivating when held up to the light. The brooch fastens using a 'C' catch and the pin is fitted to the brooch with a round hinge. The brooch measures 8.5cm x 3cm.

A Short History...

The jewellery of the Art Nouveau movement took its inspiration from the natural world and organic forms - the bee was a particularly popular motif and can be seen in this piece. Horn was utilised extensively in French jewellery creation during the early 1900s and was carved to fashion pendants, brooches and hair accessories. This brooch is most likely French in origin too.
