The Details...

This evening bag features a silver frame and open link chain handle. The frame is etched and embossed with a floral, typically Art Nouveau, design. It has areas of open-work detail too. The chain is attached to the bag frame though two decorative loops. The body of the bag is constructed from a green, yellow and blue paisly print jacquard style material and is lined with a floral ikat print silk in pink, green and cream.. The bag features one large central compartment and a small internal pocket. The bag opens and closes with a push clasp. It measures 19cm x 16cm. The chain is 20cm in length.

The accessories of the Art Nouveau period can be exemplified by an allusion to the natural world. With its organic detailed frame, this purse is particularly representative of this aesthetic phase, which began in the 1880s and started to wane in the 1900s/1910s.
