The Details...

This evening bag features a cream and black celluloid frame which has been molded with a design that features a butterfly and floral motifs. It is detailed with a black and white beaded chequerboard design and black bead tassels. The bag has a black and cream celluloid open link chain handle. The bag has one central compartment and is lined with black cotton and a floral ribbon trim. The bag measures 24cm x 18cm. The handle is 34cm in length. 

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery and accessories manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-war demands for affordable jewellery and accessories.
