Condition Report:

Very Good - One small chip to the outer edge of the bag. This is barely visible. It does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece and the bag still functions well.

The Details...

This circular evening bag or dance purse is made from red celluloid. It's embossed with a leaf pattern coloured in green, black and gold. Inside the bag is a mirror and there is one central compartment. The bag is stamped on the inside with 'Made in France'. The bag features a knotted black silk thread handle and a black silk thread tassel. Both of these features are original. The bag measures 7cm in diameter and is 3cm deep. The drop of the handle is 16cm. The length of the tassel is 14cm.

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery and accessories manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-war demands for affordable jewellery and accessories.
