1920s Art Deco Crochet and Celluloid Frame Vintage Evening Bag

So typical of its time, this bag was created in France in the 1920s.

Condition Report:

Very Good - The internal fastening catch of the bag has been re-glued at some point. This is barely visible. It does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece and the bag still functions well.

The Details...

This evening bag is made from golden brown crocheted silk thread. It features a cream celluloid frame which has been molded with a design that features a Bhudda, elephants and Far Eastern style lanterns. The bag has a celluloid open link chain handle. The bag has one central compartment and is not lined except for a ribbon trim. The bag frame is stamped on the inside twice with 'Made in France'. The bag measures 22.5cm x 17cm. The handle is 39cm in length. 

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery and accessories manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-war demands for affordable jewellery and accessories.
