1920s Art Deco Silver Tone Mesh Vintage Evening Bag

So typical of its time, this bag was created in the 1920s and exudes the style of the Art Deco era.

Condition Report:

Very Good - A couple of small areas of oxidisation on the surface of the bag. This does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece, is barely visible and is consistent with age and use.

The Details...

This evening bag is made from silver tone metal mesh in a handkercheif style design detailed at its points with small, round, silver tone metal beads. It features a silver tone metal hoop shaped handle. It opens via turning the hoop onto its side, whereby the rings slide around the hoop and create an opening into the mesh that you can put things into. It's a truly fascinating design. The hoop measures 9cm in diameter and the msh section is approximately 18cm x 15cm.

A Short History...

During the 1920s and early 1930s, jewellery and accessories were influenced by the dawn of a new era. There was a push for all things modern after the shock of the First World War - people wanted to be cleansed of the old and celebrate the new. In the world of design a pure, hard-edged style was craved. This resulted in linear, geometric and symmetrical designs, as can be seen in this beautiful evening bag.

Wear it With...

This evening bag would be perfect paired with a sculptural black shift dress.
