Condition Report:

Wearable - A large number of metal studs that once covered the bangle are missing and there are small areas of oxidisation where the studs once were. The bangle is still, however, evocative and pretty nonetheless.

The Details...

This bangle is constructed from cream coloured celluloid, known as ivorine celluloid. It is detailed with hand-painted black diamond shapes, round blue rhinestones and metal studs. The internal diameter of each bangle is 6.3cm.

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-Depression demands for affordable jewellery.
