1940s Apple Juice Bakelite and Rhinestone Vintage Clamper Bangle

This exceptionally rare and special example of a Bakelite cuff dates from the 1940s.

Condition Report:

Very Good - A very tiny chip and scuff to the edges of the bangle and a small fleck embedded within the Bakelite during manufacture. This does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece and is only visible upon close inspection.

The Details...

This bangle is constructed from apple juice Bakelite etched with a linear design. it is detailed with a row of square cut red rhinestones and two rows of round colourless rhinestones. The bangle is hinged so that it can be opened and closed. The internal diameter of the bangle is 6cm.

A Short History...

This bangle is made from the thermoset plastic Bakelite used popularly in jewellery manufacture from the 1910s through to the 1940s. It has been proven to be Bakelite through testing. It is evocative of the wartime era, when manufacture of luxury items, such as jewellery, could only really be achieved through the use of cheap, man-made materials.
