Very Good - Some very faint scratching to the surface of the central panel. This is consistent with age and does not detract from the appeal of the piece.

The Details...

This cuff is constructed from Vulcanite and features an oval shaped panel detailed with an intricate portrait of a woman. The cuff is expandable, but only slightly, as Vulcanite is a very stiff and firm material. To put it on, it should be eased very gently over the hand. The internal diameter of the bangle is 5.5cm, so it is really only suitable for wear on a small wrist.

A Short History...

Vulcanite is a rubber-like substance made from tree sap mixed with sulphur. It was always molded and never carved. It was developed to imitate the much more costly Whitby Jet - catering for the high fashion for black jewellery popularised by Queen Victoria and her mourning dress after the death of her beloved Prince Albert.

Wear it With...

Wear this cuff with a black silk slip dress for a modern gothic look.
