This pretty brooch dates from the 1920s and was made in France.

Condition Report:

Very Good - Some rubbing to the metallic highlighting on the brooch. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the appeal of the piece.

The Details...

This brooch is constructed from black celluloid. It features a floral design and this is accented with silver metallic paint, possibly silver leaf. The brooch fastens with a trombone catch and the fastening pin is attached to the brooch with a tube hinge. The brooch measures 3.25cm in diameter.

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-Depression demands for affordable jewellery.
