The Details...

This black celluloid brooch features a silver painted floral design. It fastens using a 'trombone' catch (a characteristic of its French heritage) and the pin attaches to the brooch with a tube hinge fitting. The brooch measures 3.5cm in diameter.

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1930s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-Depression demands for affordable jewellery.

Wear it With...

This brooch is perfect for evening wear or a special occasion. It would look beautiful with a little black dress, but equally chic with a 1920s bridal gown.
