The Details...

This brooch is silver tone metal set with faux pearls, marcasites and aquamarine, claw set, navette rhinestones. The brooch fastens with a traditional safety catch and the pin is attached to the reverse with a round hinge. It also fatures a safety chain. The pin of the brooch is stamped with the word 'METAL'. The brooch measures 6cm x 0.75cm. 

A Short History...

The use of marcasite in jewellery dates from the late 1700s. It is the mineral iron pyrites and, when faceted and polished, sparkles like diamonds. It was extrememly popular in jewellery design during the roaring Twenties, as an affordable alternative to the fashion for pieces encrusted in diamonds.
