1930s Marcasite and Celluloid Vintage Forget Me Not Brooch

This pretty unsigned brooch features an elegant floral motif and colourway. It dates from the 1930s.

The Details...

This brooch features a cream coloured celluloid panel, on top of which is mounted a silver tone Forget Me Not design, set with marcasites and blue rhinestones. The brooch fastens using a 'C' catch and the fastening pin is attached to the brooch with a round hinge. The brooch measures 7cm x 3.75cm. 

A Short History...

Marcasite jewellery became prevelant in the late 1800s in line with the trend for mourning jewellery popularised by Queen Victoria. It's use in costume jewellery was fairly consistent through to the 1940s.
