The Details...

This sterling silver ‘Norwegian Bridal Brooch’ features an embossed circular panel from which hang circular concave discs that have filigree designs suspended from them and oval shaped concave discs. The brooch has a round safety catch fastening and round hinge fitting. It is stamped '830S'. The brooch measures 6.5cm x 4.25cm.

A Short History...

Norwegian bridal brooches became popular during the 1800s and were worn with traditional national dress for marriage in the country. They are referred to as 'Solje' and are described as having 'spoon like forms' hanging from them. The volume of metal in the brooches was intended to ward off trolls and illness.
