A Short History...

This brooch presents a rare opportunity to own a piece of costume jewellery history and, indeed, fashion history. It was created by Roger Scemama, who was one of the most renowned 'paruriers' of his time. The 'paruriers', who particularly enjoyed a heyday after the Second World War, created costume jewellery and accessories to adorn and enhance the work of the couturiers. Roger Scemama produced jewellery for a number of couture designers, including Dior, Balenciaga and Givenchy. He was renowned for the highly obvious claw setting of his stones and also his opulent 3D designs. Both of these hallmarks can be seen in this brooch. This piece was created for the Parisian couturier Jacques Fath, who created looks for the 1948 film 'The Red Shoes' and was a key designer in the post-war couture movement. Rather excitingly, this brooch comes complete with a framed original advertisment that it was featured in.
