The Details...

These wonderful earrings are constructed from Silver - they are stamped '935' on the reverse of both earrings. They feature four hexagonal shaped designs increasing in size and each hexagon is set with small, round Marcasite stones. Each hexagon is attached to another with a small hinge so that they move forwards and backwards independantly. The earrings fasten to the ear with a screw-back mechanism. They measure 5cm x 1.75cm.

A Short History...

During the 1920s and early 1930s, jewellery was influenced by the dawn of a new era. There was a push for all things modern after the shock of the First World War - people wanted to be cleansed of the old and celebrate the new. In the world of design a pure, hard-edged style was craved. This was evident in Bauhaus architecture, cubist art and the dropped-waist, linear-cut silhouette of the Flapper Girl. Jewellery designers looked to celebrate a burgeoning, bright industrial future in their work, creating pieces that looked almost mechanical with their sharp shapes and chrome coloured highlights. These earrings are certainly a-typical of Art Deco jewellery design during the period - their bold geometry, encrusted with bright Marcasites for a new feminine look and movement.

Wear it With...

These earrings are perfect for evening wear or a special occasion. They would look beautiful with a little black dress, but equally chic with a bridal gown.
