The Details...

These drop earrings are constructed from silver plated metal. They feature seed-shaped drops, stamped with a swirling pattern. At the top of the drop, attached to the hook, there's a floral motif. At the end of each earring, a filigree loop holds a red plastic hoop in place. The earrings attach to the ears with lever-back hooks. The earrings measure 7.5cm x 3cm.

A Short History...

Plastic was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1920s and 1930s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that plastic could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-wartime and post-depression demands for affordable jewellery.
