    This cord necklace is detailed around its centre with a gilt metal open link chain, attached to which are clusters of gilt metal and amber Bakelite balls. At either end of the necklace there are further lengths of gilt metal chain. The necklace is adjustable in length and uses a bolt ring to fasten. At full length, the necklace measures 56cm. 

    A Short History...

    This necklace is made from the thermoset plastic Bakelite used popularly in jewellery manufacture from the 1930s through to the 1950s. It has been proven to be Bakelite through testing. It is evocative of the wartime era, when manufacture of luxury items, such as jewellery, could only really be achieved through the use of cheap, man-made materials.

    Wear this necklace with a burgundy or mustard hued jumper for Autumn/Winter dressing.

    - Try not to get your jewellery wet. Some costume jewellery manufacturers utilised water soluble glue in the making of their pieces. Getting your jewellery wet could cause rhinestones and other details to fall away over time.

    - If you wish to clean your jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth or a soft brush.
