Condition Report:

Very Good - Some wear to the gold vermeil surface. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece.

The Details...

Each one of these earrings depicts a quiver of arrows. They are set with small, round, clear rhinestones. The earrings are plated with gold vermeil, but this has worn a little over time to reveal silver tone metal underneath. The earrings are clip on. The reverse of one earring reveals an oval plaque stamped with 'CHRISTIAN DIOR BY MITCHEL MAER'. The reverse of each earring clip is also stamped with 'KRAMER'. This is beacuse the Kramer company produced jewellery for Dior in the USA, whilst Mitchel Maer created jewellery for Dior in the UK. These earrings perhaps feature both marks so that they could be sold in both the UK and the USA. Each earring measures 1cm x 3.25cm.

A Short History...

These earrings can be dated to the 1950s, as the London based designer Mitchel Maer produced jewellery for the House of Dior between 1952 and 1956. His bold rhinestone creations for the house were popular, as they particularly complimented the couture evening wear designed by Dior during the decade. Today, they are most collectable because they demonstrate Maer's eye for interesting design. Maer was often influenced by romance, myth and legend - as can be seen in this quiver of arrows design - a design that's rarely found on the market today, especially in its earring form.
