The Details...

This silver tone metal necklace is detailed with rectangular panels set with dark and light blue glass pressed with floral designs. The dark blue panels have an almost Lapis Lazuli appearance to them and the pale blue panels are opalescent. This type of pressed glass is sometimes know as P√Ęte de Verre. The necklace fastens with a barrel clasp and measures 38cm in length.

A Short History...

The process of producing P√Ęte de Verre was popularised in France and Czechoslovakia in the 19th century. It's a technique which involves pressing glass powder into a mold. The resulting glass-work is very fragile, meaning that older pieces incorporating this technique are scarce. P√Ęte de Verre was embraced by jewellery designers due to the intricate patterns and rich colours which could be achieved through its use.
