The Details...

This necklace features pale blue celluloid beads of varying shapes and sizes carved with a range of patterns. They are interspersed with gold tone metal barrel beads. The necklace fastens with a gold tone metal barrel clasp and the beads are threaded onto chain. The necklace measures 41cm in length.

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1920s and 1930s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-Depression demands for affordable jewellery.

This necklace would look sensational with a midi length tea dress and leather jacket.
