The Details...

This necklace features round and tube shaped black glass beads interspersed with pale green round and ring shaped glass beads. These beads are all linked together with gold tone base metal. Suspended from the necklace is a pressed green glass pendant with an oval shaped black glass cabochon at its centre. The pendant is pressed with Far Eastern inspired floral patterns, so that it resembles carved jade. There is a small element of black enamelling on the pendant too.   The necklace fastens with a bolt ring and measures 52cm in length. The pendant is 8cm x 3cm.

A Short History...

Glass has been a prevelant feature of costume pieces since the invention of fashion jewellery. It's extrememly suitable for meeting the ever challenging and changing demands of costume jewellery designers because it's an easily accessible material that can be formed into any shape and dyed any colour. This necklace was created in Czechoslovakia - the high quality of the glass and the necklace's design are typical of Czech jewellery.
