The Details...

This gilt metal necklace has an open-link chain and is 40cm in length, falling in what is described as a 'Princess' style around the neck. Lying in a 'fringe' on the decolletage, is a design that features small and large, round, faceted, claw set diamantes, some of which are assembled in a 'horse shoe' design. This necklace fastens with a bolt ring.

A Short History...

During the 1940s women's fashions were utilitarian. Severe shouldered suiting and sturdy footwear gave them commanding silhouettes. There was a need for accessories to soften and feminize a woman's appearance and costume jewellery met this demand. Attractive and glamorous pieces, such as this necklace, added a touch of grace to sharp tailoring. The eye-catching, shimmering diamantes were also a more cost-effective alternative to fine jewels during times of rationing.

Wear it with...

Why not evoke the ideals of 1940s women by pairing this necklace with a structured black blazer? Or this delicate design could work perfectly with an ivory lace bridal gown.
