Edouard Rambaud for Chantal Thomass 1980s Gold Plated Greek God Vintage Statement Necklace

Striking and high fashion this necklace was designed in the 1980s by Edouard Rambaud for Chantal Thomass.

Condition Report:

Very Good - Some wear to the plating where the sections of the necklace rub together when it's being worn. This is only visible upon really close inspection and does not detract from the appeal of this piece.

The Details...

This gold plated necklace features gold plated tubes, detailed with a hammered, almost bark-like design, threaded onto chain. Four of these tubes are mounted with stylised, tree inspired motifs. The central tube is mounted with the face of a bearded man, which takes its inspiration from a Greek god. The necklace is adjustable in length and fastens with a hook and eye that uses an open link chain, which ends in a silver tone metal ball charm. The necklace is signed. The reverse of the man's face features an oval shaped cartouche stamped with 'Chantal par Edouard Rambaud Paris London'. The necklace measures 48cm at its longest length.

A Short History...

1980s style can be effectively explained by the term 'power dressing'. Womenswear was tailored to challenge notions of who was 'boss' and costume jewellery was created to reflect fashion that showed control. Pieces, such as this necklace, were bold and flashy. Adornment in the eighties was a vocabulary for saying 'I'm in charge'.
