The Details...

This circular locket is made from silver. It features on its front face an ivory/grey coloured guilloch√© enamel detailed with a lilac coloured rose, branches and leaves. The reverse of the locket also features ivory/grey coloured guilloch√© enamel. The locket is empty inside, with room for two photographs. This locket measures 2cm in diameter. The locket is stamped 935 and features the Meyle and Mayer dragonfly makers mark on its bale. This mark has slightly rubbed away, but is doubtlessly the Meyle and Mayer dragonfly because I have found other examples of this same locket with the dragofly symbol clearly defined. This same rose motif was also used on verified Meyle and Mayer brooches.

 A Short History...

Meyle and Mayer were a German jewellery manufacturers based in Pforzheim. They were known for their highly skilled silver and enamel jewels, which reflected the aesthetic of the Art Nouveau and German Jugendstil movements.
