The Details...

This gilt metal necklace features a fancy Belcher chain detailed at the centre, sides and fastening with a cast metal leaves and branches design. Screwed into the design are silver tone flowers detailed with clear and red small round rhinestones. The necklace fastens with a fold-over clasp. The necklace measures 40cm, which can be described as a 'Collar' length. The necklace is signed. One of the side panels of the piece is stamped 'Trifari' with a crown symbol above the 'T'.

A Short History...

During the 1940s women's fashions were utilitarian. Severe shouldered suiting and sturdy footwear gave them commanding silhouettes. There was a need for accessories to soften and feminize a woman's appearance and costume jewellery met this demand. Attractive and glamorous pieces, such as this necklace, added a touch of grace to sharp tailoring. The eye-catching, shimmering rhinestones were also a more cost-effective alternative to fine jewels during times of rationing.

Wear it With...

This necklace would be perfect for a Black Tie event, pair with a red liquid satin bias cut gown for maximum impact.
