The Details...

This locket features a halo of round, clear, open back, paste stones, all of which are collet set. At the centre of these stones is a glass frame in which a portrait would have been placed. Currently, a panel of turquoise silk original to the locket is revealed. The reverse of the locket sees an encased hairwork design detailed with ribbon and ink. The oval locket measures 4cm x 3.25cm.

A Short History...

This is a piece of sentimental jewellery from the Victorian era. The hair work picture was created using the hair of a loved one in remembrance of them. The hair has been formed into a Weeping Willow motif, as the tree symbolised sorrow. A painting of the remembered person would have featured in the other side of the locket too.
