The Details...

This necklace and ring set is constructed from silver and detailed with green enamel. The necklace measures 38cm in length and fastens with a hook and eye. The ring is a UK size M 1/2. The ring is signed - it is stamped 'J.A. GAUTIER' on the reverse.

A Short History...

Jacques Gautier was famed for his silver and enamel jewels. Opening his workshop in 1946, he initially began producing buttons for the Parisian couture houses. But, then moved onto creating jewels for designers such as Christian Dior, Jacques Fath, Lucien Lelong, Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne. Monsieur Dior called Gautier the 'Picasso of Jewels'. It's possible to identify this particular set as dating from 1959, as a white enamel version of it features in a 1959 edition of L'Officiel de la Couture, which can be found in the book 'Costume Jewellery for Haute Couture' by Florence M√ľller.
