Jean Painlevé 1930s Seahorse Design Vintage Bangle and Dress Clips Set

Featuring an unusual and evocative design, this jewellery set dates from the 1930s and was created in France by Jean Painlev√©.

Condition Report:

Very Good - Some surface scratching to the metal and slight mis-shaping of the bangle. This does not detract from the overall appeal of the pieces and they still look correct when worn.

A Short History...

Fascinatingly, Jean Painlevé was not a costume jewellery creator, but a French avant garde filmmaker. He was widely celebrated for his films on marine life, particularly 'L'Hippocampe' (The Seahorse), which prompted the creation of a brand of jewellery and fabrics in 1936 inspired by his work. This jewellery set is from this famous Painlevé collection of jewels.
