1920s Art Deco Cream Celluloid Cicada Design Vintage Minaudière

So typical of its time, this bag was created in the 1920s and is most likely French. 

Condition Report:

Very Good - A couple of small areas of rubbing and darkening on the surface of the bag. This does not detract from the overall appeal of the piece and is consistent with age and use.

The Details...

This evening bag or minaudi√®re is made from cream molded celluloid. It is detailed with a 'cicada' constructed from celluloid too. The bag is stamped inside with a number 10. It fastens with a fold over clasp and features its original gold silk tassel and knotted gold silk handle. The minaudi√®re measure 7cm x 12cm x 3cm. The tassel drop measures 11cm. The handle drop measures 12cm. 

A Short History...

Celluloid was a highly popular material inaccessories manufacture during the 1920s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-war demands for affordable jewellery and accessories.
