The Details...
This brooch is constructed from silver and was made in France. It is stamped on its reverse with a French Poinçon or silver hallmark. The brooch is hand-set with small round, colourless paste stones. These are all multi-faceted and set within open-backed mounts, allowing the stones to shimmer wonderfully. The brooch is detailed with two emerald green, melon cut glass cabochons. The brooch fastens with a trombone clasp and the fastening pin is fitted to the reverse of the brooch with a tube hinge. The brooch measures 5cm x 4cm.

A Short History...
Melon cut glass is glass etched with a linear pattern resulting in it resembling a melon. This form of glass cabochon or bead was typically used in French jewellery of the 1920s and 1930s. It was produced by bead makers including the legendary French glass costume jewellery creators, Gripoix.
