The Details...
This brooch is constructed from silver tone metal. It features a typically abstract, but organic, Jugendstil pattern bearing a strong similarity to the designs we see incorporated into the work of Jugendstil artist Gustav Klimt. The brooch is detailed at its centre with a large purple and blue art glass cabochon. The brooch fastens with a 'C' catch and the fastening pin is attached with a round hinge. The brooch measures 6.25cm x 3.25cm.

A Short History...
The term Jugendstil, meaning "Young Style," was derived from the magazine Die Jugend and describes an art and design movement which took place in Germany and Austria from c.1896 through to c.1915. Taking place at the same time as the Art Nouveau movement, which was inspired by the natural world, Jugendstil was also heavily influenced by organic shapes but contrasted them with geometric forms resulting in very stylised designs. Important Jugendstil jewellery designers were Carl Herman, Meyle and Mayer and Georg Kleeman. This brooch was doubtlessly influenced by their work.
