    The Details...

This gilt metal brooch features a floral posy design with flowers, buds and leaves. The centres of the open flowers are detailed with snall, round clear rhinestones. All of the stones are faceted and claw set. The brooch fastens using a traditional safety catch and the fastening pin is fitted to the brooch with a round hinge. Brooches constructed from this type of gilt metal are commonly associated with French jewellery designs of the 1940s. This brooch measures 7cm x 5.25cm.

    A Short History...

This brooch is the epitome of costume glamour. Not only is it evocative of the cocktail style popularised in the late 1940s and 1950s - evidently fake, but nontheless elegant - it represents the influence of nature upon mid-centrury jewellery. Indeed, couturiers, such as Dior and Balenciaga, were heavily influenced by floral motifs and it is no surprise that other jewellery manufacturers were producing pieces that echoed Parisian trends.

    Wear it With...

Brooches are an exceptionally simple way to add instant vintage styling to any look and interest to plain materials. Pin this piece onto a hat, lapel, collar, cuff, scarf, sleeve, waistline or bag - wear alone or with a selection. The diamante in this piece means that it would work well pinned to a bridal gown or attached to the ribbon that ties a wedding bouquet together for an additional glamorous detail.

The jewellery within the Gemma Redmond Vintage collection has survived to this day because it has been well cared for throughout its lifetime. It is important to continue to care for the jewellery that you buy from us to ensure its continued preservation. Here are some suggestions:

    - Be sure to store your jewellery within the boxes that we provide to ensure that it is protected. This is especially important when travelling with your pieces.

    - Try not to get perfume or hairspray on your items. These liquids can damage the materials that our jewellery is made from.

    - Try not to drop your jewellery or catch your jewellery against hard surfaces. If this happens over time, the findings and fixings can loosen and wear.

    - Try not to get your jewellery wet. Some costume jewellery manufacturers utilised water soluble glue in the making of their pieces. Getting your jewellery wet could cause rhinestones and other details to fall away over time.

    - If you wish to clean your jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth or a soft brush.
