The Details...
This gold plated necklace features two strands of chunky spiga chains. At the centre of the chain is a stylised bow design and at the centre of this is a large, round, blue glass cabochon. The necklace fastens with a large toggle clasp. The necklace is signed. The reverse of the clasp features an oval shaped cartouche stamped with 'GIVENCHY' and a copyright symbol. The reverse of the bow features a round cartouche stamped with 'GIVENCHY', the brand logo and 'PARIS NEW YORK'. The length of the necklace is 43cm. This necklace appears to have been unworn and features its original store tag.
A Short History...
1980s style can be effectively explained by the term 'power dressing'. Womenswear was tailored to challenge notions of who was 'boss' and costume jewellery was created to reflect fashion that showed control. Pieces, such as this necklace, were bold and flashy. Adornment in the eighties was a vocabulary for saying 'I'm in charge'.
Wear it With...
Pair this necklace with a minimal black jumpsuit and a single-strap heel for a sophisticated evening look.
The jewellery within the Gemma Redmond Vintage collection has survived to this day because it has been well cared for throughout its lifetime. It is important to continue to care for the jewellery that you buy from us to ensure its continued preservation. Here are some suggestions:
- Be sure to store your jewellery within the boxes that we provide to ensure that it is protected. This is especially important when travelling with your pieces.
- Try not to get perfume or hairspray on your items. These liquids can damage the materials that our jewellery is made from.
- Try not to drop your jewellery or catch your jewellery against hard surfaces. If this happens over time, the findings and fixings can loosen and wear.
- Try not to get your jewellery wet. Some costume jewellery manufacturers utilised water soluble glue in the making of their pieces. Getting your jewellery wet could cause rhinestones and other details to fall away over time.
- If you wish to clean your jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth or a soft brush.
